array transducer is operated using a 3-Tesla MR scanner. During the energy delivery, anatomical and thermal images are acquired in real time to support clinical decision making. The method has been applied in a feasibility study to perform central lateral thalamotomies (CLTs) in patients suffering from chronic neuropathic pain. The CLT application is based on a detailed physiopathological thalamocortical concept. Methods/Results: In 10 patients, targets for ablations of 3-5mm in diameter were selected in the posterior part of the central lateral thalamic nucleus

Introduction: Traumatic spinal cord injury (SCI) can result in devastating motor and sensory deficits. Of these, impaired bladder function is particularly significant as urinary tract complications rank among leading causes of morbidity and mortality in acute and chronic SCI. Experimental SCI in a rat contusion model demonstrates characteristic bladder dysfunction that parallels clinical SCI including abnormal micturition, urinary retention, and pathologic changes in functional bladder wall compliance. Previously, our group demonstrated that a combined immuno

, temozolomide, or radiation adjuvant therapy. Additionally, the factors that were associated with a decreased ability to maintain functional independence in the univariate analysis were: increasing age at the time of surgery, presence of specific comorbidities (CAD, chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder, or hypertension), preoperative motor deficits or language deficits, and those who incurred a new postoperative motor or language deficit. No other clinical, imaging, or pathological variables were found to be associated with functional independence, including postoperative

from these chronically damaged nerve roots. 8 Other patient factors may also influence the main flaw in using EMG monitoring to determine the accuracy of pedicle placement, which is its high number of falsely stimulated screws that are in fact well within the medial pedicle cortex. The structural bone integrity of the preexisting spine can be taken into consideration when deciding to use EMG monitoring because degenerated bone, as in the case of patients with osteoporosis or the elderly population, will have minor bone defects that may be clinically insignificant
