side effects and increasing local drug concentrations. 5 Intrathecally administered tizanidine has demonstrated significant antinociception in the tail-flick test (a measure of reflex nociception rather than neuropathic pain) and on visceral nociceptive pain in rats, without affecting blood pressure. 5, 9 In light of the efficacy of intrathecal tizanidine in animal models of nociceptive pain, we have evaluated the analgesic effect of this agent on chronic experimental neuropathic pain and determined its efficacy relative to that of morphine sulfate.
