recent anatomicopathological investigations have suggested that there may be damage to nerve cells in the trigeminal ganglion and/or demyelination in the proximal portion of the nerve root; 2, 10 however, other researchers have reported similar changes in elderly patients who do not suffer from trigeminal neuralgia. 1, 8 We therefore decided to reinvestigate the problem using sophisticated quantitative sensory perception threshold tests in patients presenting for relief of trigeminal neuralgia by microvascular decompression. 5 Clinical Material and Methods
