P reganglionic BPI involves the very proximal portion of the brachial plexus at the junction of the central and peripheral nervous systems, which controls highlevel neurological functions such as hand movements. The majority of brachial plexus palsies in adults are the result of traumatic injuries caused by high-energy forces such as motor vehicle accidents, whereas root avulsion accounts for most BPIs in adults.
