and the screws placed ( Fig. 8A ). Identifying the lateral masses at C-1 and locating the right vertebral artery was easily done using the guidance system ( Fig. 8B ). Once normal anatomy was not visible after removal of some bone from the lateral masses on the left side, the pointer for the guidance system ( Fig. 8C ) was useful for identifying the inferior lateral masses and transverse foramina.
