Functional outcomes at 2 years of age following treatment for posthemorrhagic hydrocephalus of prematurity: what do we know at the time of consult?

IRB approval given the retrospective nature of the study. Inclusion criteria consisted of premature birth (< 37 weeks gestational age [WGA]), grade III or IV IVH based on the Volpe classification, 27 and treatment of PHH with a surgical procedure (ventriculosubgaleal shunt [VSGS], ventriculoperitoneal shunt, or endoscopic third ventriculostomy; Table 1 ). Exclusion criteria consisted of birth ≥ 37 WGA, IVH not consistent with a GMH of prematurity, premature IVH grade I or II, and premature IVH grades III and IV that did not require treatment.
