Outcome following decompressive craniectomy for malignant swelling due to severe head injury

Among the 54 patients excluded from our analysis were 45 patients who had undergone prophylactic decompressive craniectomy during evacuation of a mass lesion and nine patients who had undergone resection in addition to planned decompressive craniectomy for swelling.
