This illustration summarizes the findings of Nathan et al. (E15), who report that kyphoplasty within 8 weeks of vertebral fracture versus a more delayed strategy was associated with lower rates of new persistent opioid prescribing for patients previously naïve to opioids. When kyphoplasty was performed within 4 weeks, there was a higher likelihood that patients who were not opioid-naïve returned to their baseline overdose risk within 90 days. Artist: Megan Foldenauer.
